Turf Paradise will celebrate its 55th anniversary with the seventh annual running of the Cotton Fitzsimmons Mile this Saturday.
Fitzsimmons, who coached the Suns in three different decades and also worked as a team executive and broadcaster before his death in 2004, was a horse racing enthusiast and a frequent patron of Turf Paradise.
The Fitzsimmons Mile will be a $35,000 stakes race run at eight furlongs with a full field of 12 horses, and Turf Paradise is offering free Grandstand admission to anybody with a Phoenix Suns game ticket stub.
The racetrack will offer a variety of giveaways including birthday cake in an event that should feature a festive atmosphere as Cotton Fitzsimmons is remembered and Turf Paradise is celebrated.
