A day after’s third child and first son was born, Nash and his wife, Alejandra Amarilla, announced that they are planning on dissolving their marriage.
Here is the statement printed by The Arizona Republic via Life & Style Magazine:
“I am very thankful and excited that we have a new son, Matteo Nash. Alejandra and the baby are doing fine. But this is a bittersweet moment for my wife and I; after five years, we are now in the process of dissolving our marriage. While we have lived separately for the past several months, we remain firmly committed to raising our children in the most positive, nurturing way possible. I want only good things for Ale going forward; right now, I’m focused on ensuring that our children understand how much they’re loved and adored by us as they continue to adjust to these changes. I would ask that their privacy, and ours as a family, be respected as we move forward. This will be my only statement on this.”
Nash and Alejandra are also the parents to twin 6-year-old girls, Lola and Bella.
Nash did not speak to reporters after his spectacular performance in Friday’s win over the Kings and did not want to comment on the birth of his son beyond a press release sent out by the Suns Friday afternoon. According to The Associated Press, the Suns’ TV and radio broadcasts of the game were under orders not to mention the birth.
Nash’s parents and siblings were on hand for Friday’s game in what must be an incredibly difficult time for the star point guard balancing the emotions of joy stemming from the birth with the pain that inevitably results from a divorce.
