The Phoenix Suns wrap up the preseason tonight at home against the Denver Nuggets and the game will largely be a night of rest — for everybody.
The Suns are sitting guard Josh Childress (for obvious reasons — the broken finger) and forward Hedo Turkoglu, who is only taking the night off for rest.
Suns coach Alvin Gentry said during pregame media availability that Turkoglu was healthy but simply tired, and Gentry decided to sit him. Hakim Warrick will start in his place.
Gentry said the team is still evaluating Childress’ injury, suffered Tuesday against the Warriors, and he may be able to play soon.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if he played on Tuesday,” Gentry said.
The rest of the Suns’ lineup is slated to play tonight, but don’t expect much time from the starters.
Nuggets coach George Karl went further than Gentry in resting his roster. Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Nene all won’t see any action in US Airways Center.
The Nuggets are starting Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Melvin Ely, J.R. Smith and Anthony Carter.
