Ok, so the Suns are officially in the playoffs. Woohoo! But that doesn’t mean there’s any time for relaxin’…there’s still seeding to be done, opponents to be scouted, and yer boy Señor Sun-N-Gun is just the one to do that scouting, right? Right.
Looking at basketball-reference.com, here’s how they project things to end up:
Pretty much like things are now. I think it’s interesting that this model projects every team to play just about .500 ball between now and the end of the season…which I suppose is fair because a lot of those teams will be playing each other, which makes for a tougher schedule than if they all got to play bottom-feeders for the rest of the season.
But if the Suns are able to continue their current run, they could keep pushin’ up on those teams in front of them (although, of course, even if they pass the Jazz or the Mavs in terms of victories, they won’t be able to pass them in playoff seeding because of the NBA’s ridiculous rule that puts division winners in higher seeds just because they won their division. That’s nonsense, but whatever). All of those teams are within just a couple of games of each other, so some moving around could still happen.
Let’s just say, though, that things end up just like this. That would give the Suns the Nuggets in Round 1. Wow. So later today, we’ll start the Potential Playoff Opponents Series with Denver. Might as well start big, right? Right.
