Kings at Suns: Pre-game notes

PHOENIX — Here are a couple of notes and quotes courtesy of Alvin Gentry’s office an hour before game time:

  • Steve Nash will be a game-time decision. Alvin Gentry on Nash’s status: “He’s going to see, it will be a game-time decision. He’s feeling pretty good right now so we’ll just have to see what happens when it goes up, we’ll see how he feels.”·
  • Gentry on the Kings: “It will be a little bit different team than we’ve seen in the past. They’re a big team, when you think of Evans being 6-6, (Francisco) Garcia being 6-7, (Omri) Casspi being 6-8 and you know Landry plays like he’s 6-11 and (Jason) Thompson, that’s a big team, that’s a really big team.”
  • Gentry on Tyreke Evans: “When they start talking about you doing something that Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Oscar Robertson have done, that pretty much speaks for itself. He’s a heck of a player. Everybody talks about how you have to back off of him and make him shoot jump shots this year, he’s played 55 games in the league, he’s gotten the ball wherever he’s wanted to get it to. To think that it’s going to happen tonight I don’t know, we just have got to limit it as best we can.”
  • Gentry on the Kings recent trade: “They got (Carl) Landry who’s kind of been a thorn in our side at Houston. Really good player, I like their team, they’re real capable.”
  • Evans recently had dinner with President Obama. Gentry joked, “I still don’t think Barack could beat him 1-on-1.”
