Now that I have thought about it, it would not have been a bad move. And hearing that it would have been picks from NY then it makes a little more sense. As far as taking time away from Dudley and Clark I was referring to Battier doing that as all three of them play the SF/3 position essentially. Scola would be a 20/10 machine for us but only till Nash left us. I think the point of trading Amare would not have been to get better now...more or so getting better for the future. The thought of getting no "young" talent except a mid round pick for Amare and mortgaging the rest of this year scared me.

Scola is a lot more skilled than Dudley and Clark. Scola with Nash is an easy 20 and 10. The picks were going to be the picks from the NY trade. That was why it was a last minute offer to the Suns. Those NY picks could be very valuable because if they don't get one of the big 3/4 players those picks could be lottery picks pretty easily.
Just thought that whole scenario should have been flushed out in a post here since Kerr (according to Aldridge I think) actually did accept the offer. I don't think you addressed that aspect of it in your response to my original comment.

Thats not a good deal for us. Scola is useless as he really doesnt make us "better" up front. We dont need another old SF to take minutes away from Dudley and Clark ,who was a lottery pick, like Battier. Brian Cook rides the pine and how valuable is a Rockets first rounder? They should make the playoffs this year so it wont be a lottery pick, and with Yao back next year they definitely wont be in the lottery. Either way Kerr finally did the right thing. We are playing well and who knows, maybe he re-ups for one more year. Then in summer of 2011 we will have he, Barbosa and J-Rich coming off the books. Sounds like a good summer to me.

This was posted 6 hrs ago, so I think there would have been time to mention the deal that Kerr and the Suns actually did accept/propose that was ultimately rejected by the Rockets.
The deal was all set (Battier, Scola, Cook and 1-2 draft picks) for Amare. The deal was finally shot down by Morey because the Suns wanted to waive the physical. Rockets were worried about his knees.
Anyway, the premise of your post was that the Suns did not get a suitable offer. Doesn't seem to jive with what is being reported.

How is it that Amare's value is less than Pau Gasol?
Amare is better in all aspects of the game. Amare is also two years younger. Pau Gasol is the softest big man in the league.
