Suns wings’ shot selection graphed out

Check out this cool graph from a University of Columbia blog of the Suns wing players’ shot distribution from last season:Anybody who follows the Suns could tell you Grant Hill favors the midrange jumper and corner 3s, Raja Bell takes mainly 3s and long 2s and Leandro Barbosa shoots a number of 3-pointers but also takes shots all around the court – all of which this graph confirms.

The graph also provides some insight on first-year Sun Matt Barnes with his shot chart from Golden State last year. Barnes’ bright spots come behind the arc and right around the basket, providing mathematical evidence Barnes is the spot-up 3-point shooter and transition player the Suns sought.

As a commenter on the site wonders, it would be interesting to see a similar distribution chart for makes and misses to see if a player should be allocating a higher percentage of his shots elsewhere.
